Law Enforcement
Forensic nursing is the bridge between law enforcement and health care. It is applying the art and science of nursing to criminal and civil investigations and other legal matters. Forensic nurses are specifically trained to provide care to perpetrators and victims of trauma or death due to criminal acts or traumatic events. Forensic nursing will not only assist with the patients’ emotional and physical recoveries, but will also recognize and collect evidence while treating the patients’ wounds. Documentation details is an extremely crucial and delicate aspect of this job.
A forensic nurse will be the advocate for victims and their families, by having the knowledge and expertise to support while educating on the importance of meticulous evidence gathering.
Consultations for Care Facilities
Forensic nursing will be able to work with attorneys involving investigations of alleged abuse, neglect and medical misadventures. Forensic nursing is also able work with administrations to prevent such allegations.
Attorneys
Because few attorneys know how to read medical records or understand the terminology and subtleties of healthcare issues, a forensic nurse is there to provide the one on one consultation that will make the attorney’s job easier, more effective, and more efficient. As a registered, certified forensic nurse, reviewing and interpreting relevant medical records is just a part of the forensic nurse expertise. While the attorney is the expert on legal issues, the forensic nurse is the expert on nursing and the workings of the healthcare system.
